INTERSEXION
(Following text from the documentary’s website:)
The first question any new parent asks… “Is it a boy or a girl?”
What if it’s neither?1 in 2,000 babies is born with genitalia so ambiguous that the doctors cannot easily answer this question.
In this groundbreaking documentary, intersex individuals reveal the secrets of their unconventional lives – and how they have navigated their way through this strictly male/female world, when they fit somewhere in between.

“My Beloved Lamar, forgive me because the occupation took me away from you, and took away from me the pleasure of witnessing my firstborn child that I have always prayed to God to see, to kiss, to be happy with. It is not your fault; this is our destiny as Palestinian people to have our lives and the lives of our children taken away from us, to be apart from each other and to have a miserable life. Nothing is complete in our lives because of this unjust occupation that is lurking on every corner of our lives turning it into eeriness, a continuous pursuit and torture. Despite the fact that I was deprived from holding you and hearing your voice, from watching you grow up and move around in the house and in your bed, and that I was deprived of my role as a human and a father with my daughter, your existence has given me all the power and hope, and when I saw your picture with your mother in the sit-in tent, you were so calm staring in wonder at people, as if you were looking for your father, looking at my pictures that are hung inside the tent asking in silence why is my father not coming back. I felt that you are with me, in my sentiment and inside my mind, as if you are a part of my heartbeats, steadfast and the blood that flows in my veins, opening all doors for me spreading clear skies around me, and unleashing your free childish voice after this long silence.”
“Lamar my love: I know that you are not to be blamed and that you don’t yet understand why your father is going through this battle of hunger strike for the 75th day, but when you grow up you will understand that the battle of freedom is the battle of going back to you, so that I can never be taken away from you again or to be deprived of your smile or seeing you, so that the occupier will never kidnap me again from you.”
“When you grow up you will understand how injustice was brought upon your father and upon thousands of Palestinians whom the occupation has put in prisons and jail cells, shattering their lives and future for no reason other then their pursuit of freedom, dignity and independence. You will know that your father did not tolerate injustice and submission, and that he would never accept insult and compromise, and that he is going through a hunger strike to protest against the Jewish state that wants to turn us into humiliated slaves without any rights or patriotic dignity.”
“My beloved Lamar keep your head up always and be proud of your father, and thank everyone who supported me, who supported the prisoners in their struggle, and don’t be afraid for God is with us always, and God never lets down people who have faith and patience. We are righteous, and right will always prevail against injustice and wrong doers.”
“Lamar my love: that day will come, and I will make it up to you for everything, and tell you the whole story, and your days that will follow will be more beautiful, so let your days pass now and wear your prettiest clothes, run and then run again in the gardens of your long life, go forward and forward for nothing is behind you but the past, and this is your voice I hear all the time as a melody of freedom”.

Thaer Halahleh now on his 73rd day of hunger strike. According to Addameer lawyer Mona Neddaf, Thaer’s condition continues to deteriorate. The prison doctor has said to Thaer that he could die at any moment. Thaer has lost significant weight, and now weighs 55 kg. He has exceedingly low blood pressure and his temperature is fluctuating at dangerous levels. In addition to vomiting blood, Thaer is also bleeding from his gums and lips. The prison doctor also told him that he now has an infection in part of his body. Thaer is drinking water, but not taking any vitamins or minerals. Though he is very weak, Ms. Neddaf reported that mentally he is still strong.

Palestinian Christians and Muslims hold pictures of imprisoned relatives during a special service at the Monastery of St. Étienne in East Jerusalem on May 8, 2012 in solidarity with prisoners on hunger strike and to protest against Israel’s use of administrative detention orders and abuse of human rights.
More than 2,500 Palestinian prisoners held by Israel are currently observing an open-ended hunger strike, now in its third week, to demand their basic human rights: an end to administrative detention, solitary confinement, access to education, media and family visits.
Some 4,610 Palestinians are currently jailed in Israel, according to Addammeer, a Ramallah-based group that provides support for them, 320 of whom are in administrative detention and have no idea why they are there. The procedure allows a military court to order a detainee to be held for up to six months at a time without trial or even revealing the charges against them. (Getty Images)
It is not surprising to see Christians and Muslims together, side by side. Unfortunately, it is also not surprising to hear that Israel is continuing its human rights abuses.
Too long didn’t read? Israel has a policy of arresting/kidnapping Palestinians and holding them in Israeli jails for up to 6 months without telling them what they’re in for, and without trial.
You should know: Over 2,500 Palestinians are on a mass hunger strike, though some prisoners have been going without food for over 70 days now. Seventy.
I believe now is 73.

Sardasht Osman was an Iraqi Kurdish university student from Erbil/Howler who was kidnapped on 4 May 2010 outside the College of Arts in Arbil where he studied English. Two days later his body was found in Mosul city. He was known for articles criticizing the Kurdistan Regional Government.
“I swear to almighty God that I will continue this battle, the battle of dignity, freedom and pride until I break my shackles with will and faith, it is either freedom or martyrdom”, Thiab said, “I am sending you this message from my cell at the prison hospital, while intense pain and weakness invade my body, not from hunger but from the cruelty of my jailor”.
“Despite the tiredness and the pain, I receive my patience and determination from those who stand in solidarity with me, and I am telling you now, the time has come to break this savage occupation”, He added, “Detainees Khader Adnan and Hana’ Ash-Shalabi who won their battle of empty bowels paved the road for me, to walk the path of pride and dignity, and we will all walk this path until victory and freedom”.

Today, on Palestinian Prisoners’ Day, we the undersigned Palestinian civil society and human rights organisations salute all Palestinian political prisoners, especially those engaging in brave civil disobedience through ongoing hunger strikes in protest to the ongoing violations of human rights and international law. Emphasizing imprisonment as a critical component of Israel’s system of occupation, colonialism and apartheid practiced against the Palestinian people, we call for intensifying the global Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign to target corporations profiting directly from the Israeli prison system. In particular, we call for action to be taken to hold to account G4S, the world’s largest international security corporation, which helps to maintain and profit from Israel’s prison system , for its complicity with Israeli violations of international law…
